"Art is not a thing; it is a way."
—Elbert Hubbard
Often times, in our pursuit of the life of God and a fully-realized humanity, words and definitions fail.
Cue the artists. The musicians. The poets. The painters. The sculptors. The photographers. The storytellers. For thousands of years, God has brought to us the deepest truths through song, story and evocative imagery. Art dislodges us from the stifling places in our journey, when words could only talk about it. Therefore, as we seek out Christ and the life he offers, we will do so by utilizing not only the academic part of who we are, but the unpredictable, freely artistic part as well.
Made. Unmade. Remade.
Three songs recorded live at Crosspointe during our August 2015 series entitled Made - UnMade - ReMade. If you would like a free download of these three recordings, give us your email address, and we will send you a link.
Walter Brueggemann writes that the poems in the Psalms can be roughly organized into three categories or movements. We've chosen a psalm from each movement to set to new music.
1. Psalms of Orientation evoke gratitude and articulate the joy, delight, goodness, coherence, and reliability of God. (Psalm 145)
2. Psalms of Disorientation lament the anguished seasons of hurt, alienation, suffering and death. (Psalm 88)
3. Psalms of New Orientation celebrate the surprise of new gifts of God, when joy breaks through the despair. (Psalm 65)
