Act of Service Sunday
Ideas for Ways to Serve on October 27th
Thank you for participating in the Crosspointe Day of Service! We are excited and grateful to be able to serve our communities and world with you today. Below are some suggestions of ways to serve. Choose what inspires you and makes sense for your context.
IDEAS FOR WAYS TO SERVE
1. Notes of Encouragement
Take 20-30 minutes to send texts, emails, notes, or videos of encouragement to individuals in your contact list who need to be reminded that they are loved, seen, and/or appreciated. Can't think of anyone to write to? Use this form to write a note to a senior adult participating in the Meals on Wheels lunches at White Oak Foundation. Every day, Meals on Wheels (Friendship Cafe) serves meals to senior adults in the Western Wake community. Make their day with a note of encouragement. These will be printed and shared with the Friendship Cafe participants.
2. Creation Care
Grab a trash bag (maybe some gloves) and take a walk. As you enjoy your walk, pick up trash in your neighborhood, at a park or playground, a shopping area, or on the edges of a safe street.
3. Help an Educator
Contact a local school for a teacher, specialist, or school-wide wish list. Take a moment to order a few items from the list and have them delivered to the school. Alternatively, take the list and go shopping. Deliver the items to the school this week. Include a note of thanks for their commitment to students in your area.
4. Assist a Food Pantry
Find the needs list for your local food pantry, then grab your wallet and keys and go shopping! (If you aren't sure of a pantry near you, Feeding America is a database of many food pantries in the US.)
5. Community Action
Take a moment to register to vote, to donate blood, and/or contact your local representative about an important issue in your community or state.
6. Acts of Kindness
* Help a neighbor with yard work.
* Buy snacks and drinks and deliver them to a local emergency room or fire department.
* Take some books to a neighborhood lending library.
* Bake cookies or deliver flowers to your neighbors or someone who you know needs extra encouragement.
* Decorate kindness rocks and leave them in your community (parks, gardens, libraries, stores, etc.).
